This week a friend introduced me to her favorite chocolate, Green & Black's Organic Hazelnut & Currant Bar. This a friend who avows that she not only needs a piece of chocolate after most meals, but also always has a bar of the good stuff in her purse. Needless to say, hers is not an opinion that I take lightly.
Wow. The first bite was a revelation. I've never been a huge fan of having too many things in my chocolate, but this epic combination parades across the palette. 60% dark chocolate is combined with crunchy bits of toasty hazelnuts and robustly flavored dried currants. The hazelnuts and currants blended so seamlessly with the chocolate that if it weren't for their texture, I might not have noticed them; they really just make the chocolate taste more complex. This bar has a savory quality to it and reminded me of a Ferrero Rocher. Must be the hazelnuts. At the same time, it is bright and deeply fruity. It's a combination that seems particularly appropriate for this time of year. Must be all of the Christmas music about chestnuts and holly/other berry-bearing plants. Not that I've starting listening yet, of course.
Green & Black chocolates are widely available. I've seen them at grocery stores, drug stores, even some bodegas. They are not only delicious; they are also certified organic and fair trade. All that and ethical too? You got it. Thanks for reading! Strawberry kisses :*:*:*
