I didn't think much of you when I saw you at Whole Foods. To be honest, at this point I've tried and blogged about most of the selection there. It wasn't with a lot of excitement that I picked you up. You just so happened to be one of the few that I haven't tried.
Equal Exchange Very Dark Chocolate, you achieve so much in just one bar. You are organic. You are made with 100% fairly traded ingredients. You are certified in both of these respects. You are Kosher and naturally gluten-free. You have a 71% cacao content.
You have a balanced and mild flavor relative to other dark chocolates. You do not taste sugary at all, but you do have sweet notes of raisins and vanilla. You oddly remind me of cherry danish, the kind with zagging drizzles of white frosting and a super flaky crust. You, however, are not flaky. You are super smooth despite your lack of an emulsifier.
Your packaging is completely biodegradable, including the shiny interior wrapper. It's made from harvested wood. Who knew that was even possible? You have a beautiful map on the underside of your paper wrapper, showing exactly where in the world you source your ingredients. You are the whole shebang, Very Dark Chocolate. Is it okay if I call you that? For all of this, I can't believe you only charge people $4. I love you.
