Starbucks has been on my mind. I suspect I am not alone in this. How can it not be, what with all of their new signage dedicated to the pumpkin spice latte? Speaking of P.S.'s, has anyone else been confusing them for the MoMA PS1 signs? Or the public school signs in general? In any case, I did not go to Starbucks in search of a pumpkin spice latte. I have been intrigued by something new on their menu this year--or, at least, new to me--for some time: the chcoolate chai tea latte.
As a non-coffee drinker, the chai tea latte is my drink of choice at Starbucks. I figured, what could be better than to add a little chocolate to the mix? I'm not sure what I was expecting, but the chocolate latte did not taste particularly different than the regular one. In fact, it mostly tasted like the regular chai latte, but with some chocolate syrup thrown in. This seems like the logical addition in retrospect, but again, not what I was expecting. I did enjoy it--it tasted a lot like spicy hot chocolate, and that is another one of my favorite drinks--but one should be forewarned that the chocolate flavor seemed to dilute the spiciness and flavor of the chai itself. If you are a hot chocolate fan but need a little caffeine or antioxidant boost, this is the drink for you. If you are craving chai, however, I'd say opt for the classic and get a chocolate chunk cookie on the side.
P.S. HAPPY FALL : )
