Many of you already know that Taza Chocolate is stone ground, USA-made and organic (quite the combination). In the past year or so, the company has expanded to include chocolate bars in addition to the chocolate disks they're known for. I was lucky to receive not one, but two of these fantastic bars as a birthday gift. Toffee and almonds and sea salt and chocolate? Yes please! Let's see how this one measures up...
This bar is made with 60% cacao, but by the taste of it, you'd think you were eating milk chocolate. It's mild. It's creamy. It has just enough subtle toffee flavor. Oh yeah. I don't know about you, but when I think toffee, I think great big slabs of it. Perhaps this is a result of my own slightly unhealthy obsession with the stuff, but I was very surprised at how untextured this bar was. I mean, with toffee and almonds and sea salt AND the fact that it's stone ground chocolate (which brings an inherent texture in and of itself), this bar should be a haven for textures. But it's not at all. It's shockingly--and pleasantly--homogenized. Every element of this bar is so finely ground that it blends into the flavors around it, yielding one strong, overall two-punch experience that is bound to leave you craving more. I know I did; I went through this bar so fast, I was almost left with nothing to review!
If you love toffee, or if you love salty + sweet (and therefore don't yet know that you like toffee), check out this bar. It's good for the environment and for the people who make it. It's good for your soul. In fact, it is magic. In your mouth.
