Hailing from San Leandro, CA, The Tea Room's mission is to gift the world with exquisite combinations of chocolate and tea. A longtime fan of rooibos tea, this Raspberry Rooibos bar instantly caught my eye. Pronounced "roy-boss," as in a chap named Roy who is your boss, rooibos is a delicate, mildly flavored herbal tea from South Africa. Although there are several different varieties of rooibos available, the most common is red rooibos. It looks like tiny reddish brown sticks, and it's lauded for its many health benefits due to its high level of antioxidants. It tastes like vanilla with a mild berry flavor. It has a slight sweetness when served straight, but rooibos is particularly scrumptious when doctored with ample amounts of sugar and milk. This is a tea one could make a meal of, the kind of tea one could "tuck into," which is a British expression that I love.
This chocolate fusion bar is 60% cacao dark chocolate infused with raspberry rooibos tea. It is organic, GMO-free and hormone-free. I'm not sure how hormones factor into the picture since this bar does not contain any animal products, and I have yet to hear about plants being treated with hormones, but who knows? And frankly, who cares? It is so tasty that I might forgive the hormones, were they present. With minimal ingredients and only 14g of sugar per half bar, this bar is a satisfying and relatively healthful treat. Enjoy it with a cup of its inspiration, or opt for a complimentary cup of earl grey.
The Tea Room chocolates can be found at many health food stores, most of NYC's Food Emporium's and Bed, Bath & Beyond. This is definitely one of the most unique bars I've tried in a while. It combines one of my favorite fruits plus my favorite tea plus my favorite food stuff in life all in one 1.8 oz. portable package. At only $4 per bar, it's also relatively inexpensive. So basically it's the best thing I've encountered since JSwipe. Mazel tov, y'all.
